REST IN PEACE!

MISSION:

We would like to invite you to visit our memorial in Hopwood at the corner of Buttermilk Lane and Walnut Street. We are very proud of our memorial and have been complimented on it by many visitors. We take great pride in it and are very happy that the Gold Star Parents and families have a place to feel near their loved ones. We have a very dedicated grounds keeper, Chuck Switalski, who keeps the grass neat and he plants beautiful flowers for us. In 2008 Laurel Highlands senior Scott Brownfield created a memorial dog tag as his senior project. November 4, 2006 we celebrated our 20th anniversary of our memorial wall, which started as a dream for our then vice president Glenn Nielsen. We hope you visit our wall which is located in Hopwood on Buttermilk Lane by the Amvets.

Description:

We have a memorial wall for the KIA, MIA, and POW's of Fayette County. The memorial honors the 49 Fayette veterans who died during the Vietnam War and the one serviceman who is missing in action. Every May, the organization sponsors a vigil at the memorial outside the AMVETS Post on Buttermilk Lane.

The VVI annual vigil for 2023 will begin 12 Noon Friday May 19 and ends 12 Noon on Saturday May 20, with us standing 15 minute intervals in honor of our fallen and missing brothers. There is a Candlelight Ceremony begins at 9PM Friday evening.

Our color guard does military funeral services and they are very dedicated. We are losing too many of our brothers too soon.
